Interpretation activation plan

Interpretation and signature experiences activation plan

This interpretation activation plan provides direction to Parks Victoria for the development of interpretation, information and devices along the Grampians Peaks Trail.

required particular attention to the signature experiences identified by Parks Victoria. Interpretation was across all media and included pre-visit, visit, and post visit.

Consultation and stakeholder engagement

Consultation with Traditional Custodians, Parks Victoria staff, tourism operators, and other stakeholders was a key requirement of our brief. The input from those groups and individuals was invaluable in providing advice, defining and refining the product, and generating ownership. Following the completion of the first complete draft in December 2018, additional workshops were undertaken by Parks Victoria with Barengi Gadjin Aboriginal Land Council, Gunditj Mirring Traditional Custodians Aboriginal Corporation and Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation.

The Grampians Peaks Trail

The Grampians Peaks trail (168km) from Mt Zero to Dunkeld is an undulating journey through forest and heathlands, across the rocky spine of an ancient landscape. Mountains rise sharply from encircling vast plains. Near and distant lakes, waterfalls, rivers and creeks, quench this fragrant, colourful and often crackle-dry country.

The journey through Gariwerd is a journey trod by many before. The Aboriginal presence in this land is potent and ancient. Their artwork adorns the walls of sandstone shelters whose sand grains once settled on an ancient sea-floor.

Hidden stories and secrets, and differing attitudes and beliefs, all form part of the mosaic and rhythm of this land. These stories, and many more, are revealed surprisingly and intriguingly along the trail, richly and deeply connecting walkers to this place and its people.
