Sculptures freestanding

Broome Chinatown interpretation through freestanding sculptures.

Below – Broome air raid aluminium sculptures of figures, each with a collection of historical and personal vignettes laser-cut into their bodies.

These bronze sculptures along Franklin Wharf (Hobart, Tasmania) pay tribute to the men who ventured off into the icy unknown of the Southern Ocean and the Antarctic. It is part of an ensemble called Heading South by Stephen Walker. The artwork is part of an installation of several bronze pieces by long-time resident Stephen Walker. It’s actually two pieces: Seals and Penguins (1998) and The Bernacchi Tribute (2002). The artworks memorialize Hobart’s role as the launching point for several 19th century Antarctic expeditions.
