Meet the team

Peter O’Brien

I’ve always loved writing and research, having completed three degrees. My journey into the ‘art of interpretation’ was shaped by mentors who taught me that good storytelling has the potential to create memorable and unparalleled experiences.

My storytelling mantra has become: provoke interest, reveal meaning, engage the senses, and tell well, not all.

I specialise in interpretive writing, stakeholder engagement, interpretation planning, project management, and concept design.

About TIDC - Dee Rogers

Dee Rogers

After moving to the north coast of NSW in 2002, I launched ‘Coffs Design,’ a small home studio. As the business grew, I specialized in interpretive projects, eventually founding The Interpretive Design Company in 2013 with Peter.

I offer advice and innovative design solutions for a vast range of interpretive projects. Specialising in non-personal media design, my work has been an essential component in the achievement of several awards.

My expertise lies in interpretive design, mapping and wayfinding, stakeholder engagement, branding and marketing.

Kate Alexandra

Since joining TIDC as a designer in 2021, I’ve harnessed the power of interpretive design to tell compelling stories and have been developing my artistic ability on-the-job. With a background in Fine Arts, I focus on creating impactful visuals through graphic design and illustration.

Since 2022, I have taken the lead on several major projects, enhancing my leadership and project management abilities.

My key areas include interpretive design, illustration, visual style guides, mapping and wayfinding, and branding.

Where we started

Founded in 2013, The Interpretive Design Company is a specialist interpretation consultancy creating meaningful connections between people and place.

Our work spans environmental and cultural heritage, tourism and public places, delivering interpretation plans, interpretive signage, wayfinding systems, maps and visitor experiences for clients across Australia.

Every project is grounded in research, shaped by collaboration and designed to reveal the stories, values and significance that make each place unique.
